What are the medical exam classes for pilots?

PilotCare, LLC offers 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Class Medical Exams, ensuring pilots meet the necessary health standards for flying.

How do I prepare for my pilot medical exam?

To prepare for your pilot medical exam, ensure you have completed the MedXpress on the FAA website and texted your confirmation number to Dr Lutz at 614 342 9530. If you have any medical history of chronic conditions, please bring any relevant medical records. If you have a Special Issuance, please bring the original SI letter as well and any other correspondence from the FAA.

What should I expect during the medical exam?

During the medical exam, you can expect a thorough evaluation that includes vital signs, vision tests, a physical examination, and a review of your medical history. First time applicants will also undergo a color vision screening test provided by PilotCare, LLC. A urine test for sugar and protein is done on all pilots. No drug screening is done as a part of the medical exam. The examiner will assess your overall health to determine if you meet the FAA’s medical standards for pilots. 1st Class pilots need an initial EKG at age 35 and annual EKGs after age 40.

How long is the medical certificate valid?

The validity of a medical certificate varies by class: 1st Class is valid for 12 months, 2nd Class for 12 months, and 3rd Class for 60 months, for those under 40 years of age.

For those over 40 years old at the time of the exam: 1st class is valid for six months, 2nd Class is valid for one year, and 3rd Class is valid for two years.

It’s essential to renew your certificate before it expires to maintain your flying privileges.

Can I appeal a denied medical certificate?

Yes, if your medical certificate is denied, you can appeal the decision. This process involves providing additional medical documentation or undergoing further evaluations to demonstrate that you meet the necessary health standards for flying. All of the needed information will be given in detail with a letter from the FAA.
